Jason Isaac is best known for his roles as Death Eater Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, and brutal Colonel William Tavington in the film Patriots. Jason Isaacs was born in Liverpool on June 6, 1963, to Jewish parents. His father was a jewellery maker in Liverpool’s tight-knit Jewish community, and his Eastern European great-grandparents were founding members of the Liverpool suburb of Childwall. At the age of 11 he moved with his family to North West London, where he attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School. He was the same year as film critic Mark Kermode. He describes his childhood as a preparation for portraying the unattractive villains he played most often. In 1982 Isaacs entered the University of Bristol to study law and became more active in the theatre society, eventually appearing in more than 30 plays. Immediately after graduating from Bristol in 1985, he went to train at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Almost immediately after finishing training, Isaac embarked on a successful acting career, both on stage and on television. His film debut was a minor role as a doctor in the 1989 Mel Smith film Tall. Since then, he has enjoyed a lucrative career in show business. He has appeared in countless plays, TV series and movies including: The End of Events, the Harry Potter series, The Patriots, Dragon Hearts, Event Horizon, Black Hawk Down, Tuxedo, Captain Hook, The West Wing and The Brotherhood , to name a few. Isaacs and his wife, BBC documentary filmmaker Emma Hewitt, have been married since 1988 and have two daughters, Lily and Ruby.
