She was born on April 12, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia. In the 1930s, Withers and her mother moved to Hollywood, where she worked as a child model, and played small roles in many movies between 1932 and 1933. When she played a supporting role in the movie “Bright Eyes” starring Shirley Temple, she ushered in a major breakthrough. For the remainder of the 1930s, Withers appeared in a number of movies each year, including Ginger, Paddy, Farmer’s Wife, and Miss Nobody. In 1947, Withers in his early 20s married a wealthy Texas Petroleum company named William P. Morse, and retired for several years. The couple had three children, William, Wendy and Randy, but their marriage was not happy. One and ended after only six years. In 1955, she married Kenneth Errair of The Four Freshman group. They had two children, Ken and Kendall Jane. In the 1960s, Withers appeared in various TV series including Pete and Gladys, General Electric Theater, Aquanauts, and an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Moments. For more than ten years, she has also appeared in commercial advertisements as “Josephine the Plumber” and has been lucrative. In addition to her screen performances, she has also done voiceover work for several years. In 1979, Withers was awarded the first former child star “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Young Artists Foundation in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the film industry and as a child star.
