James Hinchcliffe is a Canadian racing driver who made his IndyCar Series debut in 2011. He was born to parents Arlene and Jeremy on December 5, 1986 in Oakville, Ontario. He has two siblings, Rebecca and Christopher. Hinchcliffe attended Oakville Trafalgar High School, followed by McMaster University. He left college as a sophomore to join Forsythe Racing.

Hinchcliffe has been karting since he was a child. He got his first kart at the age of 9. He won the TKC Junior Rotax Class Karting Championship and the Junior Rotax Canada Cup in 2002. Hinchcliffe transitioned to racing at the Bridgestone Racing Academy in 2003. He finished in the top 3 in the F2000 series. In 2004, he competed in Formula BMW in the United States and was named Rookie of the Year. Hinchcliffe also competed in the A1 Grand Prix, the Atlantic Championship and the Indy Lights Series.He received the Greg Moore Legacy Award in 2010
Hinchcliffe made his IndyCar Series debut in 2011. His dominance on the track earned him the IndyCar Rookie of the Year award and the Tony Rayner Rising Star Award. Hinchcliffe replaced Danica Patrick as the new driver for GoDaddy’s Andretti Autosport team in early 2012. He went on to win the 2013 Andretti season opener in St. Petersburg, Florida. Hinchcliffe joined the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team in 2015 as a direct replacement for Simon Pagenaud. Later that year, he was seriously injured in a practice crash at the Indianapolis 500.
In 2016, James Hinchcliffe and his professional dance partner Sharna Burgess participated in the 23rd season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. They are second behind Laurie Hernandez and her partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
