Jamala is a Ukrainian singer, songwriter and actor. She won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “1944”. Jamala, formerly known as Susana Jamaladinova, was born on August 27, 1983 in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. Her mother Halyna is Armenian and her father Alim is Crimean Tatar. She has an older sister named Evelina. Jamala studied piano as a child and studied at the Simferopol Conservatory. She continued her music composition at the Tchaikovsky National Conservatory of Ukraine, majoring in opera singing.

Jamala was recognized after winning the grand prize in the “New Wave” International Young Pop Singer Competition in 2009. Her first studio album “For Every Heart” was released by Moon Records in 2011. This album is a fusion of pop music, soul music and jazz. Her second album, All or Nothing, was released in 2013, followed by her first EP, Thank You, in 2014. Jamala was selected to represent Ukraine in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. She sang the single “1944”, which tells the story of the Crimean Tatars who were expelled from Joseph Stalin in the 1940s. She was ahead of Australia’s Dami Im in the first place. Jamala’s fifth album, Kryla, was released by Enjoy in October 2018! record. It is led by the single “I Believe You”.

In addition to music, Jamara also has experience in film and theater actors. Her stage works include “Spanish Time (2009)” and a 2010 work by Vasiliy Barchatov with Bondiana as the theme. She played “Olga” in the 2014 feature film “Guide”. In 2014, she played the role of “caterpillar” in “Alice in Wonderland”. She has also appeared in multiple video clips, including history repeats itself (2009), smiles (2011) and all these simple things (2013). Jamala’s recent film works include Polina (2017) and Sky (2018).

Jamala is about 5 feet 8 inches tall. She has Armenian, Crimean Tatar, Ukrainian and Russian ancestry. She married “Bekir Suleimanov” in April 2017. Suleimanov is a radical and graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev. The couple welcomed their son Emir-Rahman Seit-Bekir ogly Suleimanov in March 2018.
