JaMarcus Trenell Russell was born on August 9, 1985 in Mobile, Alabama. Russell was raised by a factory worker and a law firm secretary. Football runs in his family because JaMarcus’s cousin is former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch. Other notable family members include Jamacus’ uncle Ray Ray Russell. Ray Ray is a famous DJ and radio host in Mobile, Alabama. JaMarcus’ cousin later founded a waffle and chicken chain store to commemorate Ray Ray, who passed away in 2009. Another uncle of Russell also passed away in 2009, which caused great mental pain to JaMarcus. This may be one of the reasons for his poor performance in the 2009 season.
Jamacus attended high school in Mobile and soon became an avid and successful football player. He has never missed a game, passing 2,683 yards in his senior year. These achievements continued into his senior year, when he threw 3,332 yards and 22 touchdowns.
