Jaheim is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper. Since his debut in 2001, he has sold more than 5 million records. Jaheim Hoagland was born on May 26, 1978 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His father, Tyrone DeShawn Cole, died in 1981 when he was 3 years old. He was raised by his mother Julie Grachel Hoagland. He has two brothers, Tyrone Jr. and Taquane. Jaheim grew up in public housing at Memorial Parkway Homes. He is a high school graduate.

Jaheim started singing and performing at local talent shows at a very young age. He was inspired by artists such as Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendegrass. His grandfather ‘Hoagy Lands’ also had a big influence. At the age of 15, Jaheim entered and won three talent competitions at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Tragedy struck the following year with the death of his mother. Jaheim used the experience to change his life, focusing his energy on music.

In 2000, Jaheim got his big break when his demo tape “Naughty Gear” caught the attention of Naughty by Nature’s KayGee. He was immediately signed to Divine Mill Records, and his debut studio album, Ghetto Love, was released in 2001. It peaked at number 9 on the Billboard 200 and was led by the singles “Could It Be” and “Just in Case”. Jaheim’s second album, Still Ghetto, was released in 2002. It was certified platinum and featured the single “Fabulous” with Tha’ Rayne. His third album, Ghetto Classics, topped the Billboard charts in 2006. It features guest artists Jadakiss and Styles P.

Jaheim signed to Atlantic Records in 2007. He has released three albums, “Men’s Temperament” (2007), “Another Round” (2010) and “A Day of Appreciation” (2013). Jaheim left the Atlantic in 2015 and signed with BMG Records. The seventh album Struggle Love is scheduled to be released in 2016. Jaheim was nominated for a Grammy in 2011 for Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal. From 2002 to 2010, he was nominated for seven Soul Train Music Awards.
