Ivan Seidenberg is an American businessman who has a net worth of $55 million. Ivan Seidenberg earned his net worth as the former chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications. Seidenberg is the current chairman of the Business Roundtable, and on August 1, 2011, Verizon’s current president and chief operating officer succeeded Seidenberg as CEO. Born on December 10, 1946, he began his business career in an entry-level position at NYNEX and quickly became CEO in 1994.
He was wounded in the Vietnam War and later earned a BA in mathematics from the City University of New York and an MBA from Pace University. Seidenberg showed his generosity by donating $15 million to Pace University in 2006. The university renamed Pace’s School of Computer Science and Information Systems Ivan G. Seidenberg in honor of his endowment. Seidenberg was appointed to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee by President George W. Bush in 2007. The purpose of the committee is to educate the president on communications issues related to national security, emergency preparedness and protection of critical infrastructure. Seidenberg is a member of the Council of Deans of the New York Academy of Sciences. He is also a board member/trustee of the following institutions: Paley Center for Media, New York Hall of Science, Pace University, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and the Verizon Foundation. There are many rumors and allegations to the contrary, but it appears that the Fed purchased $1.5 billion of Verizon’s short-term (90-day) commercial paper, and the purchase was not funded through the TARP program.
