Issa Rae is an American actress, writer, director, producer, YouTube celebrity and writer. She is best known for co-writing and starring “Isadie” in the HBO series “Insecure” (2016-). Her screen works include the movie The Hate U Give (2018) and the web series “Awkward Black Girl” (2011-13). She released the New York Times bestseller “The Misfortune of the Embarrassing Black Girl” in 2015. Issa Rae was born in Los Angeles, California on January 12, 1985, whose real name is Jo-Issa Rae Diop. Her father Abdoulaye Diop is a doctor and her mother Delyna Diop is a teacher. She is one of five children. Before moving back to Los Angeles, Rey spent her childhood in Potomac, Maryland. She attended King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science and Stanford University. She graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in African and African American Studies.
