early life
Iman Asante Shumpert was born on June 26, 1990 in Berwyn, Illinois. In his high school days, Shumpert and Evan Turner played on the same basketball team. As a teenager, Iman became a statewide player for the first team and won three division titles. Then he entered all the top 15 senior players in the country. In high school, Iman also showed a passion for spoken poetry.
After graduation, Iman studied at Georgia Institute of Technology. While playing for the school basketball team, he became the fourth scorer in the 2008-2009 season. A knee injury caused him to miss six games next season, but he rebounded in the 2010-2011 season, leading the team in points, rebounds and assists. After breaking the Georgia Tech’s record for steals per game, Shumpert announced in 2011 that he was eligible for the NBA Draft.
Profession
Shumpert started his NBA career with the New York Knicks, but suffered multiple knee injuries early on and missed the rest of his first season. In 2013, he returned to the training ground, but in 2014 he suffered another shoulder injury, leaving him absent for three weeks. Iman was subsequently traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015 and started a strong start with his new team, helping them reach the 2015 NBA Finals later that year.

After signing a $40 million contract extension with the Cavaliers, Iman was injured again—this time to his wrist. Later that season, he was ruled out due to an injury to his left knee. By 2016-2017, coach Tyronn Lue started using Shumpert as a backup point guard. In 2017, he scored 18 points against the Detroit Pistons-the highest score of his career. However, he injured his left knee again at the end of 2017, causing him to miss the game for six to eight weeks.
In the following years, Shumpert played for the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets. After Wilson Chandler’s suspension expired, Iman was waived by the Nets in 2019.
real estate
After signing a $40 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015, Shumpert took root in Atlanta. Observers think this is a low season residence. Shumpert’s Atlanta home occupies nearly 7,000 square feet, with six bedrooms, a wooded backyard and a large deck. There is also a spiral staircase, a loft library, a double-sided fireplace and a jacuzzi.
In 2018, Iman bought a house for his parents in River Forest in Oak Park. This 880,000-square-foot residence covers 4,400 square feet and has five bedrooms. In 2020, according to reports, Shumpert listed his studio in Studio City for $3.695 million. He originally purchased the home for $3 million in 2018. The residence uses Italian tile flooring, custom lighting and smart home features. It occupies about 5,700 square feet and has enough space for functions such as the dining area on top of the chandelier. Outside there is a swimming pool, a waterfall and a custom doghouse.
