Iggy Azalea is an Australian rapper and model. She was born in Sydney, Australia on June 7, 1990, and her real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly. She was raised in Mullumbimby by her parents Tanya and Brendan Kelly. Azalea has two siblings, Emerald and Mathias. She fell in love with hip-hop music when she first came to the United States in 2001. The name “Iggy” is the name of her childhood dog, and “Azalea” is the street where she grew up.

Azalea moved to the United States in the summer of 2006. She lives in Miami, Florida, followed by Texas, Georgia and later California. Her first mixed tape Ignorant Art was released on September 27, 2011, and included the song “Pu$$y”. After being on the cover of the first issue of XXL magazine’s “Top Ten Freshmen”, the azalea gained further exposure. In March 2012, she signed a recording contract with Grand Hustle Records, the mark of the southern rapper TI. Her first EP Glory was released in July 2012, and her second mixtape TrapGold was released three months later.

Azalea’s first studio album The New Classic was released on April 21, 2014. The album ranked third in the Billboard 200 and included the singles “Work”, “Fancy” and “Black Widow”. New Classic incorporates elements of hip-hop, EDM and trap music. Azalea has received four Grammy nominations for this album, one of which is Best Rap Album. She has collaborated with artists such as Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX, Ariana Grande and Britney Spears. Her upcoming album Digital Distortion is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2016.

Azalea’s modeling career began in 2012. She signed a contract with “Wilhelmina Models International” and was appointed as the new spokesperson for Levi’s “Go Forth” campaign. Since then, she has collaborated with House of Holland, Steve Madden, Forever 21 and Bonds. She is ranked 96th in Maxim’s 2014 Hot 100 list.
