Howard Stern is an American talk show host, photographer, author and television personality. He is best known for his longtime show, The Howard Stern Show, which is currently broadcast via satellite radio. Howard was born on January 12, 1954 in Bernard and Lester in New York. He has an older sister named “Ellen”. Growing up, Stern attended Hebrew school and took piano lessons for five years. He later attended Southside High School, followed by Boston University. While at BU, Stern played music and hosted interviews on campus radio. He graduated in 1976 with a degree in Communication Studies.

In 1975, Stern received a Class 1 Radiotelephone Operator License, followed by a Broadcaster Certificate from the FCC. His professional debut was on WNTN radio in Massachusetts. In 1976, he was hired by the New York radio station WRNW to run their midday class. A year later, Stern was named production and project director. After resigning in 1979, he worked for a range of other stations including WCCC, WWW, WWDC and WNBC.
Stern signed a five-year contract in 1985 to host afternoon events at WXRK in New York. The new contract gives him the freedom to explore controversial topics such as race and gender. He began syndicating the show, which by 1993 had more than 3 million daily listeners. Multiple fines and a spat with the FCC prompted Stern to sign a broadcast deal with Sirius Satellite Broadcasting in 2005. He started broadcasting in January 2006. Stern has won Billboard’s National United Airlines Personality Award eight times. The self-proclaimed “King of the Media” published his autobiography “Private Parts” in 1993. The book was a commercial success, spending a full month on the New York Times bestseller list.
