Horacio Carters net worth
Horacio Carters Net Worth: Horacio Cartes is a Paraguayan businessman and politician with a net worth of $500 million. Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara (best known as Horacio Cartes) was born on July 5, 1956 in Asuncion, Paraguay. He is the current president of Paraguay. Cartes owns dozens of businesses under his Grupo Cartes group, including those in tobacco, soft drinks, meat production and banking.
From 2001 to 2012 he was also President of Club Libertad Football Club and President of the National Team of the Paraguay Football Association during the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification. After attending a prestigious private school in Asuncion, Cartes studied at the Spartan Aeronautical Institute (now the Spartan Institute of Aeronautics and Technology) in the United States. He returned to Paraguay at the age of 19 and embarked on a long entrepreneurial career that eventually made him one of the richest men in Paraguay. One of his early business ventures was a currency exchange company, which also made him the target of investigations into the Alfredo Stroessner dictatorship in the mid-1980s. After four years on the run (presumably abroad), Cartes eventually returned to Asuncion in 1989 and was briefly imprisoned, but released when the currency fraud charges were dropped. His main opponent in the presidential election is Efraín Alegre (Liberal Party). Incumbent Federico Franco, a Liberal politician barred from seeking re-election, is under fire under leftist President Fernando Lugo over his alleged mishandling of a deadly clash between farmers and police. After being impeached, he took office in 2012. Horacio Cartes was elected President of Paraguay in 2013. He is a member of the Colorado Party.
