Pete was born on September 18, 1964 in Airy Hills, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His original name was Holly Elizabeth Robinson. Her mother, Dolores, was a school teacher and later a personal talent manager, while her father was a producer and writer. She is the second child of the couple because they had her brother Matthew Thomas Robinson III before. When she was young, she attended the Green Street Friendship School in the nearby town of Germantown. She has been interested in acting from a very young age and first appeared on TV in the first episode of “Sesame Street” when she was 5 years old. She also worked as a celebrity reporter in “Children’s World” when she was 11 years old.
Peete’s family later moved to Santa Monica, California when Peete was 10. She attended Santa Monica High School and then at Sarah Lawrence College. Peete married NFL quarterback Rodney Peete on June 10, 1995. He proposed to Peete in the episode “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper”. The couple had four children in total-twins Ryan and Rodney, and Robinson and Roman. Rodney was diagnosed with autism when he was three years old. After her father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Pete and her husband co-founded the HollyRod Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to research and help find ways to treat Parkinson’s disease and autism. It also provides assistance to those who have these conditions.
