early life
Holly Madison was born on December 23, 1979 in Holly Cullen. Although she was born in Astoria, Oregon, she moved with her family to Craig, a small town on Prince Wales Island, Alaska, when she was two years old. After high school, she and her family moved back to Oregon to attend high school in the town of St. Helens.
After graduation, she attended the University of Portland for two years, studying drama and psychology. After this, she moved to Los Angeles and attended Loyola Marymount University. Tuition started to rise at this point, so Madison became a model for Hawaiian Tropical Sunscreen and worked as a waitress at Hooters.

As her career progressed as a model and waitress, Madison was eventually invited to the Playboy Mansion at the age of 21. Over the next year, she became closer and more frequent with Hugh Hefner. Her financial problems continued to be an issue, and at one point her credit card debt was so large that she was on the brink of homelessness. At 22, she formally asked Hugh Hefner for permission to live in the Playboy Mansion, and he accepted.
What followed was a mixed bag. For one thing, Hugh Hefner now controls almost every aspect of Holly’s life. She was not allowed to earn income outside the mansion, and, like the other girls who lived there, Madison was subject to a strict 9pm curfew every night.
