He specializes in bass guitar, tuba and double bass. A member of Blue Mink, T. Rex and Sky, Flowers is an established British recording bassist who has recorded for Elton John, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Roy Harper, Allan Clarke, David Essex, Al Cooper, Carter Stevens, Harry Nelson, Serge Gainsbourg and George Harrison.
By the late 1970s, Flowers was estimated to have played bass on 500 records. He played tuba in the RAF and then in the Dixieland Jazz Band. He became a band member of the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner. One of Flowers’ most famous basses was Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side,” which became Reed’s only top 20 hit in the U.S. Flowers has released four studio albums, including 2012’s A Jazz Breakfast . He was a bass guitar teacher at Addingley College. As a member of T. Rex, he recorded the hit singles “Hot Love”, “Get It On”, “Telegram Sam” and “Metal Guru”.
