Helmut Sohmen Net Worth: Helmut Sohmen is an Austrian lawyer and Hong Kong businessman who has a net worth of $2.8 billion. Helmut Sohmen graduated summa cum laude from Linz College (Fadingerschule), followed by a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Connecticut, USA, and finally a Ph.D. in Vienna.
Before starting his career, he tied the knot with Anna Pui Hing Pao, with whom he has three children. Despite not having many years of work experience, Helmut interrupted his professional activities on more than one occasion to obtain a Master of Comparative Law and a Master of Laws. They stopped in Bermuda (1974) and London (1977) before moving with their family to Hong Kong in 1981. After settling in Hong Kong for five years, he became the CEO and shareholder of Dragonair. In 1986, he was named Chairman and President of Universal Shipping Group. The company has also changed its name to the shipping empire – Bergesen Worldwide (BW) since he worked for the company that acquired a majority stake in Norway’s Bergesen fleet in 2003. In addition to this, he founded the Sohmen Far East Foundation in 1991 to help young Austrians connect in Asia. Helmut has built his fortune over the years, and by 2009, was ranked 13th on the Hong Kong Rich List.
