Hector Lavor Net Worth
Hector Laver Net Worth: Hector Lavoe is a Puerto Rican salsa singer who has a net worth of $1 million. Hector Juan Pérez Martínez, better known as Hector Laver, was born on September 30, 1946 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. El Cantante De Los Cantantes, as we all know, came to New York at the age of 17 with a dream of going big.
With no formal musical training, he caught the attention of Johnny Pacheco. When Pacheco began recruiting musicians and singers for his Nova Francia label, he introduced Laver to a young trombone player in need of singer Willie Colon. When Pacheco saw Cologne’s potential and put him on his list, Cologne was recording with Alegre Records in Al Santiago. Lavoe and Colon worked together for eight years and produced many albums. Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe combine salsa (originally Afro-Cuban music) with Puerto Rican bombas, plenas, orisa, baquine y aginaldos, cumbia, merengue and other Latin American music as well as jazz. Lavoe and Colon then parted ways, with the public questioning whether Lavoe could succeed on her own, but Lavoe proved more popular as a solo artist. Laver’s life has unfortunately encountered several emotional tragedies, such as the death of his four-year-old mother, the death of his younger brother in a car accident, the accidental death of his 17-year-old son, and murder. His mother-in-law and then his father died. The weight of these tragedies combined with alcohol and drug addiction took their toll. In 1988, Hector jumped from the window of a hotel room in Puerto Rico. Some believe it was a suicide attempt, others say he feared his wife after the incident (fueling rumors that he was pushed), and still others believe addiction has finally prevailed.
According to reports, those close to him said that Hector saw a vision of his son outside his window and invited him to come. Hector survived the fall, but never did. He occasionally showed up at clubs and sang a song or two, but his health continued to deteriorate until his eventual death on June 29, 1993, in Manhattan, New York City.
