Harvey Weinstein is an American film producer and co-founder of Miramax Films and Weinstein. His film works include Pulp Fiction (1994), Goodwill Hunting (1997) and Shakespeare in Love (1998). Weinstein was born in Queens, New York on March 19, 1952 to Max and Miriam. His father is a diamond cutter. He has a younger brother named Bob. Weinstein attended John Bowen High School, followed by the University of Buffalo. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1973 and an honorary doctorate from the University of Buffalo in 2000.

After graduating from university, Weinstein, his brothers Bob and Cokey Burger started a concert promotion business. They bought a theater in downtown Buffalo, where they produced rock concerts under the name Harvey & Corky Productions. The Weinstein brothers co-founded the independent film distribution company “Miramax Films” in 1979. Their first hit film was Martin Lewis’ Another Ball of the Secret Police (1982). This was followed by Errol Morris’ documentary, Thin Blue Line (1988). With the release of “Sex, Lies and Videotape” (1989), Miramax became the most successful independent studio in the United States. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh, starring James Spader and Andy McDowell. Other early movies include My Left Foot (1989), working with Daniel Day-Lewis to tie me up! Cooperate with me! (1990) with Victoria Abril, and The Crying Game (1992) with Stephen Rea.
Miramax Films was acquired by Disney for US$80 million in 1993. Their first blockbuster film was Pulp Fiction (1994). The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring John Travolta, Samuel Jackson and Uma Thurman. Miramax won the Oscar for Best Picture for “The English Patient” (1996). Other movies include Clerk (1994), Goodwill Hunting (1997), Shakespeare’s Love (1998) and Chicago (2002). The Weinstein brothers left Miramax in 2005 and founded their own production company The Weinstein Company. Their famous works include The King’s Speech (2010), The Artist (2011), The Silver Lining Script (2012), The Butler (2013) and The Lion 2016. Harvey served as the co-chairman of The Weinstein Company from 2005 to 2017. He was fired by the board of directors on allegations of sexual misconduct in October 2017.
