Harper Lee is an American novelist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller “Killing a Mockingbird.” She was born in Francis and Amasa Lee in Monroeville, Alabama on April 28, 1926. She has four older brothers and sisters. She attended Monroe County High School a few blocks away from her home. Lee studied at Huntington College in Montgomery and then transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. In 1949, she moved to New York City, where she worked as an airline reservation agent.

Lee completed the manuscript of “Killing a Mockingbird” in 1959, which was published by Lippincott on July 11, 1960. The following year, she won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. This novel was adapted into a 1962 film directed by Robert Mulligan. Half a century later, on July 14, 2015, HarperCollins published Lee’s second novel “Set the Watcher”. In 2007, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush.
