Harper Lee is an American novelist and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller “Killing a Mockingbird.” She was born in Francis and Amasa Lee in Monroeville, Alabama on April 28, 1926. She has four older brothers and sisters. She attended Monroe County High School a few blocks away from her home. Lee studied at Huntington College in Montgomery and then transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. In 1949, she moved to New York City, where she worked as an airline reservation agent.

Lee completed the manuscript of “Killing a Mockingbird” in 1959, which was published by Lippincott on July 11, 1960. The following year, she won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. This novel was adapted into a 1962 film directed by Robert Mulligan. Half a century later, on July 14, 2015, HarperCollins published Lee’s second novel “Set the Watcher”. In 2007, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush.

Harper Lee passed away on February 19, 2016 at the age of 89. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in an assisted living facility. She suffered a stroke in 2007 but later recovered. She is 5 feet 2 inches tall and has a net worth of 35 million U.S. dollars. She was unmarried all her life and had no children.
