Born on January 27, 1987 in Belmont, Vermont, she grew up in a snowboard family and began practicing the sport at the age of 8. Hannah, often assisted by her four older brothers, takes her first lessons in her hometown of Okemore Mountain.
Later, she became a graduate of Oakmore Hills School. By the time she was 15, she had become the World Junior Halfpipe Championship. In September 2002, she finished fourth in her first World Cup halfpipe in Nevado, Chile. From 2002 to 2004, Tate played in seven World Cup events and won four. In 2005, she finished third at her first FIS World Championship. A year later, she competed in the Winter Olympics and won a gold medal in the halfpipe. Then, in 2008, Teter started his own charity called “Gold Hannah”. The foundation still raises money through the sale of maple-flavored ice cream, a flavor created in her name, to provide education and fresh water to the Kenyan village of Kirindon. She competed in the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, finishing third and fourth respectively. Additionally, Hannah Tate was one of four Olympic athletes featured in the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. In 2010, Teter launched a new charity initiative, Sweet Cheeks, to help underprivileged children through Children’s International.
