Born on January 16, 1942 in Tokyo, Japan, he studied at Aoyama Gakuin University, but never graduated.
Satomi decided to drop out of school in November 1975 to establish his Sammy Corporation. His net worth has grown since the company’s inception, especially producing machines for one of Japan’s most popular forms of gambling, pachinko and the pachinko industry. In March 2001, the company was successfully listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In 2004, Sammy acquired Sega, a video game maker with a global reputation for arcade and software game production. The combined sales of Sammy Corporation and Sega Corporation were $4.5 billion and are now known as Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. By 2005, the group had grown into one of the top 60 companies in Japan by recurring revenue. Most recently, the group received approval to build a $1.7 billion casino resort in South Korea. The project will be completed in 2017.
