Guenther Fielmann is the founder, major shareholder and CEO of Fielmann AG, a German optical company specializing in retail eyewear. In 1972, he opened his first optometry shop in Cuxhaven, Germany, and started building his net worth.
Since then, the company has expanded significantly to become the largest eyewear chain in Europe, selling discounted glasses in 671 stores in Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland. Mr. Fielmann took the company public in 1994 and now he and his children own 71% of the shares. He intends to name his Mark as his successor when he steps down. In 2002, Guenther Fielmann purchased Plon Castle from Schleswig-Holstein and invested heavily in refurbishment.
