He played 88 games as a goalkeeper before joining Lyon, where he played from 1997 to 2008. Cooper played more than 500 games for the club before playing a season for Atlético de Madrid and later for Paris Saint-Germain from 2009 to 2011. Coupet appeared in nearly 650 games during his career. From 2001 to 2008, he was also a member of the French national team. Cooper represented his home country in 34 games and was part of the 2002 FIFA World Cup team.
