George Michael Zimmerman is an American, most famously for shooting and killing 17-year-old Trevon Martin on February 26, 2012. He was convicted of second-degree murder in the “Florida v. George Zimmerman” case on July 13, 2013. Zimmerman is currently suing Trayvon Martin’s family for more than $100 million. The lawsuit was filed in a Florida court on December 4, 2019.

Zimmerman was born on October 5, 1983 in Manassas, Virginia, to Gladys and Robert. He grew up in a Catholic family with three siblings, Robert Jr., Grace and Dawn. Zimmerman attended Osborne High School and was a member of the “Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps” after-school program. He moved to Lake Mary, Florida, and worked for an insurance company. He also studied criminal justice at Seminole State College.
In addition to the Trayvon Martin shooting, Zimmerman has clashed with law enforcement agencies several times over the years. He was arrested again on domestic violence charges in November 2013 and January 2015. The charges in both cases were dropped. Zimmermann began selling paintings on sensitive subjects in 2013, such as the death of young black men and the Confederate battle flag.
Four years after Trevor’s death, Zimmermann tried to auction the guns used in the shooting. The weapon was first listed on GunBroker, followed by United Gun Group, with a starting price of US$5,000. According to reports, he sold the weapon for a high price of US$250,000 on May 20, 2016. On December 4, 2019, Zimmerman filed a $100 million lawsuit against Trayvon’s family. In addition to Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, Benjamin Crump, Rachel Jeantel, HarperCollins, Florida and several others were mentioned in the lawsuit.
