George Michael is a Grammy Award-winning British pop singer, songwriter, music producer and member of the Wham! group. He has sold over 100 million units and has been named one of the best-selling British artists of all time. Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 in East Finchley, London. His father, Kyriacos, was a restaurateur and his mother, Lesley, was a dancer. He has two older sisters, Ioda and Melanie. Michael grew up in Kingsbury, London and attended Kingsbury High School. He continued his education at Bushey Meads School in Radlett, Hertfordshire. He dropped out of school before completing his diploma.

Michael and his school friend Andrew Ridgeley formed the musical duo “Wham!” 1981. Signed to Innervision Records in 1982 and released their debut studio album Fantastic! in 1983. The album reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified 3x Platinum by BPI. The album also sold half a million copies in the United States. Their second album, Make It Big, was released in 1984 and was a major commercial success. It spawned the singles “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”, “Everything She Wants” and “Careless Whisper”. Their third and final album, Music on the Edge of Heaven, was released in 1986.

In 1988, Michael won his first Grammy for the single “I Know You Are Waiting” with Aretha Franklin. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Michael’s debut solo album, Faith, was released in October 1987 by Columbia and Epic Records. The album was certified diamond in the United States and sold more than 10 million copies. It was led by the singles “One More Try”, “I want Your Sex” and “Father Figure”. It also won the 1989 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Michael’s second album, Listening Without Prejudice. 1 (1990), 8 million copies sold worldwide. Other albums include Older (1996), Songs from the Last Century (1999) and Patience (2004).

George Michael passed away on December 25, 2016 at the age of 53. According to reports, the cause of his death was heart failure. He was living at his property in Goring, Oxfordshire when he died. Michael is 5 feet 11 inches tall and of British and Greek ancestry. His net worth is estimated at $175 million. Michael is openly gay. He dated Brazilian clothing designer Anselmo Feleppa from 1991 until his death in 1993 from HIV/AIDS-related complications. He then dated businessman Kenny Goss, followed by Lebanese model Fadi Fawaz.
