George Martin is an English musician, record producer, arranger and composer. He has a long history with The Beatles and is often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle”. Martin was born on 2 January 1926 in Highbury, London. He attended Bromley County Schools and then City Hall School of Music and Drama. He studied piano and oboe, graduating in 1950. He also briefly served as an aerial observer in the Royal Navy.

Martin joined EMI in 1950 and a few years later became head of A&R at Parlophone Records. There, he worked with comedians such as Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Jim Dyer. Martin signed the Beatles to EMI in 1962. Their debut studio album Please Please Me was released on March 22, 1963. In addition to producing, Martin also served as an arranger and mentor for The Beatles. His strong influence on their early albums gave them an edge over other musical groups. He directed the production of their documentary series The Beatles Anthology in 1994 and 1995.
Martin’s work in music, film and television has earned him numerous awards and accolades over the years. He has won multiple Grammys, Brits and Oscars. He received a bachelor’s degree in Cavaliers in 1996 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
