George Duke Net Worth: George Duke was an American musician who had a net worth of $500,000 at the time of his death. Duke is a true master of the keyboards of 20th century jazz and pop music.
He was born on January 12, 1946 in San Rafael, California. As a child, Duke studied piano at school, and by the age of 16 he was already playing with many high school jazz bands. Influenced by Miles Davis, Les McCann, and Cal Tjader, he continued to expand his musical knowledge at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1967.
After earning a master’s degree in composition from San Francisco State University, Duke briefly taught a course on jazz and American culture at Merritt Junior College in Oakland. It was at this point that George began releasing a series of jazz LPs on the MPS label. 1969 marked his performance with the French violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, accompanied by Ponty’s electric violin and electric piano. He next played Frank Zappa’s album King Kong, after which he joined Zappa’s band. This experience changed his music forever. The two artists co-wrote “Uncle Remus” for Apostrophe (1972), a song about black attitudes toward oppression. Duke also contributed to a great version of the rock band “Mother of Invention” in 1972 and toured with Cannonball Adderley (replacing Joe Zawinul). After Zappa, Duke expressed his inclination towards soul jazz and eventually turned to positive funk. H has demonstrated his virtuosity on over 30 albums he has produced. As for his major hits, they include tracks such as the sassy “Reach For It” and the beautifully smooth “No Rhyme, No Reason”. On August 5, 2013, the world lost this legendary artist.
