Gary Shandling is an American actor, comedian and author. His most famous series are The Larry Sanders Show and The Gary Sandlin Show. Sandrin was born on November 29, 1949, to parents Irving and Muriel in Chicago, Illinois. He had an older brother “Barry” who died of cystic fibrosis. Sandrin grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and attended Palo Verde High School. He later studied marketing at the University of Arizona. He also took several creative writing courses.

Sandrin moved to Los Angeles in 1973. He started out as a comedy writer on the sitcoms “Sanford and Son” and “Welcome Back, Kurt.” He was first inspired to become a comedian after he was involved in a serious car accident. He made his debut in 1978 at “The Comedy Store” in West Hollywood. Sandrin released his first comedy special, Alone in Vegas, in 1984. He followed up with “25th Anniversary Special” (1986) and “Stand Up” (1991).
Shandling and Alan Zweibel created the sitcom “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” in 1985. The show ran for four seasons on Showtime from 1986 to 1990. It was nominated for four Primetime Emmys and won five CableACE Awards. Shandling launched the award-winning “The Larry Sanders Show” in 1992. The show ran for six seasons on HBO from 1992 to 1998. In 1994, Shandling won his first Emmy for Outstanding Writing on a Comedy Series. Famous movie characters include Which planet are you from? (2000), Town and Country (2001) and Hedge (2006).

On Thursday morning, he was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital with a sudden illness. He died soon after. Sandrin is 5-foot-10 and has a net worth of $17 million. He was never married and had no children. However, he did date Playboy model “Linda Doucet” from 1987 to 1994.
