Garrison Keillor is an American radio host, writer and voice actor. He is best known for hosting the variety show “Prairie House” on the Minnesota Public Radio (MPR). He created the fictional town “Wobergon Lake” and the fictional private detective “Men in Black”. His published works include Lake Wobegon Days (1985) and Homegrown Democrat (2004). Keller was born on August 7, 1942 in Anoka, Minnesota, his original name was Gary Edward Keller. His parents are John (died 2001) and Grace (died 2012). He is one of six children. Keillor attended Anoka High School, followed by the University of Minnesota. He graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in English.

In 1969, Keillor began his career at MPR as a radio announcer. From 1974 to his retirement in July 2016, he hosted the variety show “Prairie House”. The show includes a popular segment called “Wobergon Lake News”. Musician Chris Thile took over as the new host in October 2016. The show also gave birth to the comedy film “A Prairie Home Companion” (2006) directed by Robert Altman. The main actors include Kevin Kline, Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Keillor hosted the “Writer’s Yearbook” from 1993 to 2017. He voiced the PBS documentary miniseries “Civil War” (1990). He voiced the American poet Walt Whitman. Keller was inducted into the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1994. His honors include the Grammy Award and the George Foster Peabody Award.
Keller wrote several books and poems. His Lake Wobegon books include Lake Wobegon Days (1985), Wobegon Boy (1987), Pontoon: A Novel of Lake Wobegon (2007) and Pilgrims: A Wobegon Romance (2009). Other works he published include Happy Here (1981), The Democratic Party (2004), The Man in Black and the Straight Thin (2012), 77 Love Sonnets (2009) and Good Poems in Hard Times (2005). He also writes for The New Yorker Magazine, The Atlantic Monthly, and National Geographic.
