Frank Vincent is an American actor and former musician. He played “Phil Leotardo” on the HBO TV series “The Sopranos.” His film credits include Goodfellas (1990), Raging Bull (1980) and Casino (1995). Frank Vincent Gattuso Jr. was born on August 4, 1937 in North Adams, Massachusetts. He grew up in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City, New Jersey. His father, Frank Sr., was an amateur actor and his mother, Mary Ritchie. He has three siblings, Nick, Jimmy and Fran. Vincent attended St Paul’s Grammar School, where he starred in school plays. He also plays instruments such as drums, trumpet and piano.

Vincent started out as a musician. He played drums in various New York clubs with the Frank Vincent Band and the Aristocats. His debut was the low-budget crime film, The Death Collector (1976). The film is directed by Ralph DeVito and stars Joseph Curtis and Joe Pesci. His performance caught the attention of filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Vincent played the supporting role of “Salvy Batts” opposite Robert De Niro in Raging Bull (1980). He went on to star in Doing the Right Thing (1989) and Jungle Fever (1991). Both films were written, directed and produced by Spike Lee. Vincent played the gangster character in Goodfellas (1990) as “Billy Batts”, in Casino (1995) as “Frank Marino” and in Gotti (1996) as “Robert DiBernardo”. His other films include Remedy (2005), This Thing of Ours (2003) and Chicago Overcoat (2009).
Vincent is probably best known for his role as mob boss “Phil Leotardo” in the crime drama series The Sopranos. The show ran for six seasons on HBO from January 1999 to June 2007. Vincent joined the cast in Season 5. He won the Outstanding Performance by a Drama Series Crew. His TV credits also include NYPD Blue, Stargate Atlantis, New York Undercover and Law & Order. In 1999, he won the Italian-American Artist of the Year Award. In addition to movies, Vincent has also starred in commercials for Peugeot and Forever TSB. He voiced the character “Salvator Leon” in the Grand Theft Auto video game. His book, The Man’s Guide to Being a Man, was published in March 2006.
