Since becoming a U.S. citizen in 1994, he has amassed a fortune worth billions of dollars during the privatization of his country’s industries. At the time, he became close friends with oligarch Roman Abramović, who gifted Schwiedler a 370-foot yacht, Le Grand Bleu, in deference to their strong friendship.
Shvidler’s interests include a stake in Russian steelmaker Evraz and a spacious property in France. At his Chateau Thelac in France, he owns a vineyard producing nine grape varieties and wines that have received positive reviews from critics. There, Shvidler also grows plums in two orchards. Most recently, he was appointed to the board of directors of AFC Energy, a company developing alkaline fuel cell technology. In addition to making money, he also played an active role as a money provider, i.e. he was the main funder of the reconstruction of a Jewish school in the UK, now known as Beit Shvidler Primary School.
