Essence Atkins on end of marriage with longtime husband; will date again after divorce

Actress Essence Atkins filed for divorce from her estranged husband in September 2016, after a decade of marriage. She married Jamie Mendez on September 26, 2009 in Pasadena, California. They first met on Valentine’s Day 2008 through a dating app called Match.com. The online matchmaking then exchanged vows in front of family and friends at the ambassador’s residence garden.

The couple share a son, Varro Blair Mendez, who was born in December 2011.
Essence’s married life, which started with online dating, now seems to be a fairy tale with no happy ending. However, she seems to have moved on as she revealed her desire to date again.
Is Essence ready to fall in love again?
Essence revealed that she ended her marriage in September 2016 during a guest appearance on Hollywood TODAY Live, before making another announcement that she’s ready to be in a relationship again.

During the interview, she gushed about…
“I’ll be entering the dating world in almost a decade.”
“I thought ‘Oh yeah, I’m ready!’ And then I thought, ‘Oh, no, I’m not! I’ve been 40 since I’ve been dating. I don’t know, people don’t talk anymore, they text “They only call in an emergency. I don’t know what to do.”
However, Essence has yet to reveal whether she has found love again.
Isn’t she wasting her time looking for the perfect man, or is she secretly dating? Well, it’s still a mystery until now, but presumably she’s mostly focused on strengthening her career and raising her son, but still longs for a relationship.
