After a minor league game against the Visalia Oaks on September 8, 1998, Chavez played both third and first base, and made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics on September 8, 1998.
He hit left and right and averaged 0.268 at-bats, 257 home runs, 894 at-bats, and 1,460 total hits. After playing for the Oakland Athletics from 1998 to 2010, he went on to play for the New York Yankees from 2001 to 2012, most recently with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
