Elizabeth Warren is an American politician, educator and member of the Democratic Party. She currently serves as a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Warren was born Elizabeth Angelin on June 22, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her parents are Donald and Pauline Herring. She is the youngest of four children. Warren attended Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She went on to study at George Washington University on a full debating scholarship. She received her BA in Pathology and Audiology from the University of Houston in 1970 and her Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University in 1976.

Warren began her educational career at Rutgers Law School in 1977. A year later, she moved to the University of Houston Law Center. She held this position until 1983. Warren has taught at several other universities, including the University of Texas, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard Law School. During her tenure as a professor, she also conducted research on bankruptcy and personal finance.
Warren was appointed counsel by the National Bankruptcy Review Board in 1995. From 2006 to 2010, she served as a member of the FDIC’s Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee. Warren was elected to lead a congressional oversight panel in November 2008. She has overseen a number of topics, including the impact of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) on financial markets. She later served as Special Advisor to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (2010-11).
Warren announced her intention to run for the Massachusetts Senate in September 2011. She was endorsed by President Barack Obama in her 2012 campaign speech. Warren defeated incumbent Republican Scott Brown with more than 53 percent of the vote. She was sworn in on January 3, 2013. Warren became vice chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus under Chuck Schumer in January 2017. During the 2016 presidential campaign, she was a supporter of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. She strongly opposed President Donald Trump and several of his cabinet candidates, including Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
