She currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shine Limited, a media production company with offices in London and Manchester.
The daughter of international media mogul Rupert Murdoch, Elizabeth had the opportunity to attend prestigious schools in New York City before eventually graduating from Vassar College. After graduation, she started her career at her father’s FX Networks, a cable television service based in Los Angeles, California. In 1994, Murdoch made her first acquisition with then-husband Elkin Kwesi Pianim, buying two NBC-affiliated stations in California, KSBW and KSBY, with a $35 million loan from her father. In less than a year and a half, the pair rescheduled and resold the stations for an incredible $12 million profit. Next, Elizabeth moved to the UK with her husband, where she took on a key role at BSkyB, when her father was co-CEO with Sam Chisholm a post. Eventually, she took over as managing director, and during her tenure, BSkyB became one of the most profitable companies in the UK. However, after a public spat with Chisholm, she went on to work alone as a TV and film producer in London. Elisabeth successfully established Shine Limited in March 2001 after futile attempts to form a film and production division similar to BBC Films and Film4 Productions. She owns 80% of the company, 15% of which is owned by Lord Alli and 5% by BskyB. In 2011, she sold Shine to News Corp, but she remains Shine’s chairman and CEO.
