Elisabeth (Liz) Mohn and her children own 19% of the German multinational mass media company Bertelsmann. She inherited part of the family business as the widow of Reinhard Mohn (d. 2009), which is part of the fifth generation of Bertelsmann’s family.
Some of the company’s largest assets include European broadcaster RTL Group; the world’s largest book publishing group, Random House; and Europe’s largest magazine publisher, Gruner + Jahr. Turning to Bertelsmann’s operating profit (EBIT) last year, it rose 5.2 percent to $1.04 billion, while revenue fell slightly to $10 billion.
