Elaine Thompson is a Jamaican sprinter and Olympic gold medalist. She was born on 28 June 1992 in Banana Field, Manchester. She was raised by her grandmother. Thompson attended Manchester High School, followed by the University of Technology.

Profession
Thompson began competing as a sprinter in high school. In 2009, she placed 4th in the men’s and women’s 100m championships. Although she struggled initially, Thompson received an athletic scholarship to the University of Science and Technology. With the help of coach Paul Francis and his brother Stephen Francis, she managed to improve her sprinting ability. Thompson improved her 100-meter sprint time from 11.41 seconds in 2013 to an impressive 10.70 seconds in 2016. She also managed to improve her 200m sprint time from 23.23 seconds to 22.16 seconds in two years.

Thompson won gold in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2013 Central American and Caribbean Championships. She participated in the 2015 World Championships and won gold and silver medals. Thompson made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She beat Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Tori Bowie in the 100-meter sprint to win gold. Thompson won her second Olympic gold medal in the women’s 200m.
