Edward Malcolm Snider is the founder and chairman of Comcast Spectator, which owns the Philadelphia Flyers and Wells Fargo Center. He was born on January 6, 1933 in Washington, DC. Snider was originally part-owner of the record label Edge Ltd. In 1964, he sold the company and, along with Jerry Wolman and Earl Foreman, bought the Philadelphia Eagles. He holds a 7% stake and serves as the team’s vice president and treasurer. After a successful petition to the National Hockey League, Snyder was awarded an expansion club in 1966. The Philadelphia Flyers won their first game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1967. From 1974 to 1975, the team went on to win two consecutive championships.
Snider was named Chairman of Spectrum’s board of directors in 1971. Three years later, he founded the holding company Comcast Spectator. In addition to the Flyers, they also own the Comcast Sports Network and the 76ers (1996-2011). Snider is also known for giving back to the community. He founded the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation in 2005. He has also contributed to the Ayn Rand Institute and the Atlas Society. Snyder was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
