Dwayne Alonzo Washington is a former American professional basketball player. He’s 6-foot-2 and plays point guard. He is known for his crossover moves and “Shake ‘N Bake” moves. Washington was born on January 6, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York. He earned the nickname “Pear” in comparison to former basketball guard Earl Monroe. He attended Boys and Girls High School, followed by Syracuse University. Washington played three seasons for the Orange and led the team in steals and assists. He was the Big East Rookie of the Year and was selected to the Big East first team three times.His No. 31 jersey was retired by Syracuse University in 1996

Washington was selected by the Miami Heat with the 17th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Expansion Draft. He played a year with the Heat before being released in 1989. He continued his basketball career with the Continental Basketball Association, where he played for the Fast City Thrillers (1989-1990) and the San Jose Jammers (1990-1991).

Dwayne Washington passed away on April 20, 2016 at the age of 52. The cause of his death was reportedly brain cancer. He was first diagnosed with the disease in 1995 but went into remission for several years. The brain tumor reappeared in the summer of 2015, and he underwent surgery in the fall. Washington was married once and then divorced. His partner Debra Busacco, his three children Dwayne Jr., Damara and Tatiana, and four grandchildren were all survived.
