In the late 1950s, Laughlin moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and opened his first casino, “Club 101,” which he operated until 1964. During that time, he flew private jets over the area where the Davis Dam was under construction and Laughlin had a chance to see the area from a different perspective. So he bought a closed riverfront motel for $250,000, an investment that proved viable two years later. In fact, it has become a resort known for its many gaming, entertainment and water recreation opportunities. First, the area was called “Laughlin” by a local postman, and eventually the town was named after him, the town of Laughlin, Nevada. Since then, the region has been witnessing continued expansion.
