What is the net worth of DMX?
DMX is a New York-born rap artist and actor. Unfortunately, due to a series of financial and legal issues, DMX’s net worth at the time of his death was negative $1 million. Also known as Earl Simmons, he became a star after releasing his debut album in 1998. DMX went on to produce seven studio albums and appeared in many movies.
In the last ten years of his life, he was imprisoned many times. In 2013, he declared bankruptcy and only listed assets worth $50,000 and liabilities worth between $1 million and $10 million. In 2017, he was charged with 14 counts of tax fraud, sentenced to 1 year in prison, and owed $2.3 million in debts. These struggles will be detailed later in this article.
Sadly, DMX passed away on April 9, 2021 after suffering from complications related to drug overdose, at the age of 50.
early life
Earl Simmons-known professionally as DMX-was born on December 18, 1970 in Mount Vernon, New York. He was raised by his mother, Arnet Simmons, who gave birth to him when she was 19 years old.
When Simmons was five years old, his family moved to Yonkers, New York. He grew up in the community of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had a difficult childhood. He was abused by his mother and her boyfriend.
Simmons was expelled from school in the fifth grade and he was sent to the Julia Dyckman Andrews Children’s Home for more than a year. More than ten years later, he returned to another boy’s house.
It was at this time that Simmons began to compose hip-hop music and perform for his friends. Simmons eventually met local rapper Ready Ron. He admired Simmons’ beat skills, and the two became partners. Later Simmons took the name “DMX”, which was inspired by an instrument-Oberheim DMX drum machine-he would play in boys’ houses. (Later, the pen name was also interpreted as “Dark Man X”.)

DMX’s rap career began in the late 1990s. His first album, It’s dark, the hell is hot (1998) received good reviews and commercial success, and sold 251,000 copies in the first week. To date, this album has sold more than five million copies.
His best-selling album, …And then X (1999), released on December 21, 1999, only one year later. The album ranked number one in the Billboard 200 and has been certified six times for platinum. Popular tracks on the album include “Party Up (Up in Here)”, which is one of DMX’s most popular singles and his top ten hits on the R&B charts.
His other popular singles include “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” (1998), “What’s my name?” (1999), “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” (2003) and “Where is the hood?” (2003).
DMX has released a total of seven studio albums.His most recent album is Undisputed, Released on September 11, 2012. The album received mixed reviews from music critics and ranked 19th on the Billboard 200, with 17,000 copies sold. In his career, to date, DMX has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide.
DMX won the most popular rap/hip-hop artist in the 2000 and 2001 American Music Awards. He has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards and five MTV Music Video Awards.
In addition to his rap career, DMX has also starred or starred in eight movies.He has appeared in many movies that were directly converted to DVD, and made guest appearances in the movies Top five Year 2014. In 2002, DMX published an autobiography titled EARL: DMX Autobiography.

Personal life and disputes
In 1999, DMX and Tashera Simmons tied the knot. The couple have been married for 11 years and have four children-Xavier, Tocoma, Praise Mary Ella and Shawn. Tashera announced her separation in 2010.
In their marriage, DMX was not loyal, and DNA tests confirmed that he had given birth to at least two children as a result of these extramarital affairs. Once the DNA results proved that DMX gave birth to Monique Wayne’s son in 2007, he was ordered to pay her $1.5 million.
DMX is the father of 15 children. (His youngest child, Exodus Simmons, was born on August 16, 2016 for his girlfriend Desiree Lindstrom.)
DMX revealed his addiction to cocaine. He started using the drug when he was 14 years old after smoking a marijuana cigarette with lace. He also claimed to suffer from bipolar disorder.
In 2016, he was found unresponsive in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn in Yonkers. Emergency personnel resuscitated him and gave him Narcan before being taken to the hospital. The police found no illegal substance in the property, but an eyewitness claimed that DMX had ingested some substance before it collapsed. DMX insists that this is caused by an asthma attack.
In April 2021, DMX suffered a heart attack, which was reportedly caused by an overdose, which eventually caused him to coma. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 9, 2021, at the age of 50.
Legal and financial issues
DMX was imprisoned several times. He has been arrested many times for crimes such as resisting arrest, cruelty to animals, reckless driving, driving without a license, possession of drugs, and forged identity.
In late July 2013, DMX filed for bankruptcy protection in Manhattan court. In the documents submitted, DMX claimed to have approximately US$50,000 in assets and debts worth between US$1 million and US$10 million to various creditors. He made child support obligations his priority. (His debts include $1.24 million in child support.) DMX’s lawyers issued a statement explaining that these debts have restricted the rapper from obtaining passports for years. DMX hopes to restructure his debt so that he can start overseas performances again, where he still has an active fan base. The application was challenged and eventually rejected by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan later that year.
In 2017, DMX was charged with 14 counts of tax fraud, totaling approximately US$1.7 million. He was sentenced to one year in prison for tax evasion in March 2018. He was released in January 2019, but at the time of his release, he still owed the IRS $2.3 million. The government will seize his income until the debt is paid off, and he is expected to pay in monthly installments.
