Derek Fisher is a basketball coach and former NBA player. He played 18 seasons, won 5 NBA championships, and maintained the record for the most playoff games. In the 2014-2015 season, he coached the New York Knicks for the first time. Derek Lamar Fisher was born on August 9, 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Parkview Magnet High School of Arts and Science, followed by the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. He leads the Arkansas team in steals and assists, and won the Sun Belt League Player of the Year award during his senior year.

Fisher was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 24th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. He served as the team’s point guard along with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Fisher won the NBA championship for three consecutive years from 2000 to 2002. His famous 0.4-second jumper in the 2004 Western Conference semifinals became one of the greatest playoff moments ever. Fisher played two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, one season with the Utah Jazz, and then returned to the Lakers in 2007. He won his fourth and fifth championships in 2009 and 2010 respectively. After the 2013-2014 season, he retired as a player with the Oklahoma City Thunder. On June 10, 2014, Fisher signed a five-year, $25 million contract as the head coach of the New York Knicks. After losing with a 40-96 record, he was fired on February 8, 2016. Kurt Rambis was appointed as the interim head coach of the Knicks for the rest of the season.
Fisher started his career as a broadcaster in the spring of 2016. He has served as an analyst for TNT’s Inside the NBA, Spectrum SportsNet, and NBA TV. He was nominated as a contestant in the 25th season of Dancing with the Stars. His professional dance partner is the Australian national standard dancer Sharnah Burgess (Sharna Burgess). The show premiered on September 18, 2017.
