Denzel Curry is an American rapper, songwriter and former Raider Klan member. He is known for his albums Nostalgic 64 (2013) and Imperial (2016). Denzel Ray Don Curry was born on February 16, 1995 in Carroll, Florida. His older brother, Treon Johnson, was killed by police in 2014. Curry attended Miami’s High School of Design and Architecture for two years. He continued his education at Carroll City High School in Miami. He grew up in the same neighborhood as Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in 2012.

Before rap, Curry experimented with poetry. By sixth grade, he began to lean more towards rap. He grew up listening to bands like OutKast, Goodie Mob, Master P, Jay Z, Nas and the Hot Boys. His musical influences also include 2Pac and Buju Banton. Curry’s debut mixtape, “King Remembered,” was released in 2011. The following year, he released Mischievous King of the South, Strictly for My RVIDXRZ, and Mental Vendetta. Curry is a member of SpaceGhostPurrp’s hip-hop group Raider Klan. They released two mixtapes, Greatest Hits Vol.1 and Vol.. 2. Between 2012 and 2013. He has since left the group.
Curry’s debut studio album, Nostalgic 64, was released in September 2013 by C9 and L&E. It features guest appearances by artists such as Yung Simmie, Robb Banks, Lil Ugly Mane and Travis Miller. Tracks on the album include “Threatz”, “N64” and “Dark & Violent”. The project was named one of the top ten albums of 2013 by Pitchfork Magazine. Curry’s debut EP 32 Zel/Planet Shrooms was released as a digital download in June 2015. It was led by the singles “Ultimate” and “Ice Age”. His second studio album, Imperial, was released in March 2016. Among them Rick Ross starred in “Knotty Head” and Joey Badass starred in “Zenith”.
Curry was selected to the XXL freshman class of 2016. The other nine freshmen include Desiigner, Anderson Paak, Dave East and Lil Dicky. In 2016, Curry appeared in “Chill Bill (Remix)” with Rob Stone, DRAM, and Cousin Stizz. His second EP titled “13” was released by label Loma Recordings in June 2017.
