Dej Loaf is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. She is best known for her gold-certified single “Try Me”, which ranked 45th in the Billboard Hot 100. Her recordings include Just Do It (2012), All Jokes Aside (2016) and And See That’s The Thing (2015). She is a member of the 2015 XXL Freshman Class. Dej Loaf was born on April 8, 1991 in Detroit, Michigan, his original name is DeJa Monet Trimble. She grew up in the Fairview Housing project in the East Side. Her father was brutally murdered when she was only 4 years old. She has two brothers, including Desa. Dej attended Southeast High School, where she played junior high and college basketball. She studied nursing for three semesters at Saginaw Valley State University. She dropped out of school to pursue music full-time.

Dej Loaf grew up in the company of artists such as E-40, Tupac, Mary J. Blige, and Anita Baker. She started writing her own lyrics when she was 9 years old. Her 18 first mixed tape Just Do It was released in February 2012. The popularity of this tape led to a recording agreement with SAYITAINTTONE’s independent label IBGM (I Being Gettin’ Money). Dej’s DDS production single “Try Me” was released in July 2014. It reached 45th place in the Billboard Hot 100, and the official music video has been viewed more than 65 million times. Rapper Wiz Khalifa and The LOX gave up their version of guest poems. The song also caught the attention of Canadian hip-hop singer Drake, who posted the lyrics of the song on his Instagram.

Dej Loaf signed with Columbia Records in October 2014, which was her first major recording contract. Later that month, she released a second mixtape “Sell Sole”. The tape included Birdman and Young Thug in the track “Blood”. Dej appeared in the single “Detroit vs. Every” in Eminem’s compilation Shady XV (2014). In 2015, she collaborated with Lil Wayne to produce a remixed version of “Me U & Hennessy”. Dej Loaf’s first EP And See That’s the Thing was released by Colombia in July 2015. It is ranked 47th on the Billboard 200 and 6th on the Top Rap Albums list. The project features the vocals of rappers Big Sean and Future. Dej joined Fetty Wap, Kidd Kidd, Shy Glizzy, Vince Staples and a few others to be selected for the 2015 XXL freshman class. Her third mixed tape All Jokes Aside was released in April 2016. She collaborated with R&B singer Jacquees to record the tape F#ck A Friend Zone (2017). Her 2017 single “No Fear” will be included in her upcoming studio album Liberated.
