She began her legal career in the early 1980s and spent five years with Steptoe & Johnson, a corporate law firm in Washington. She became BET’s Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel in 1986. In addition to her legal duties, she also serves as company secretary and publisher in BET’s publishing division. In 1996, she was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer of BET Holdings, Inc. Nine years later, she became president and CEO of the entire company. Since becoming president, she has actively developed the BET brand and introduced new programming.
