Deadmau5 is a Canadian Grammy nominated music producer, DJ and performer. He is known for his iconic mouse helmet and hits like “Faxing Berlin” and “The Veldt.” His recordings include Random Album Title (2008), For Lack of a Better Name (2009) and 4×4=12 (2010). Deadmau5 was born Joel Thomas Zimmerman on January 5, 1981 in Niagara Falls, Canada. His mother, Nancy, was a visual artist, and his father, Rodney, worked for General Motors. He has two siblings, Jennifer and Chris. Deadmau5 attended Westlane Middle School in Niagara on the Falls. One of his early jobs in the music industry was as a programmer at an online music licensing company. He works in animation and web design.

Zimmerman adopted the nickname “Deadmau5” after discovering a “dead mouse” on his computer. The included helmet was added later. He gained early exposure as a co-producer of the local radio show “Party Revolution” in Niagara Falls. Deadmau5’s debut studio album Get Scraped was released in July 2005 by independent label Zoolook Records. It was recorded between 1998 and 2005. Deadmau5 launched its own brand “mau5trap” in 2007. His third album, Random Album Title (2008), was released with Ultra Records the following year. It was led by the singles “Faxing Berlin”, “Not Exactly” and “I remember” starring Kaskade. His best-selling album to date, 4×4=12, was released in December 2010. It peaked at No. 7 on the Canadian Albums Chart and No. 2 on the US Dance/Electronic Chart. The album features guest appearances by SOFI, Wolfgang Gartner, Chris Lake and Greta Svabo Bech. It is Platinum certified by MC and Gold certified by RIAA. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Deadmau5’s other albums include For Lack of a Better Name (2009), Album Title Goes Here (2012) and W:/2016ALBUM/ (2016). Featured singles include “Move for Me” with Kaskade, “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” with Rob Swire, “The Veldt” with Chris James and “Seeya” with Colleen D’Agostino.

The two called off their engagement in June 2013. Deadmau5 tied the knot with fiancee Kelly Fedoni in August 2017.
