He was born in 1953 in Burnage, Manchester, the son of a plumber. He went to Sheffield’s School of Art, but only stayed a year before attending Manchester Polytechnic’s School of Drama and graduating a few years later. He went on to appear in several TV series, including The Nightingale, The World Man, Cut It, The Knock, CI5: The New Professional, The Spectre, and Shameless. He has also played many well-known roles in plays such as Ridley Walker, Oedipus, Macbeth, Home in the West, and Per Gynt. Recently, it was revealed that Threlfall will play Noah in the BBC biblical drama The Ark, which has begun filming in Morocco. Threlfall has been married to Bosnian actress Brana Bajic since 1995, with whom they have two children. They met in 1994 while working for the Count of Monte Cristo at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre.
