David Shaw net worth: David Shaw is an American computer expert and biochemist with a net worth of US$7.5 billion. David Elliot Shaw was born on March 29, 1951. He made a fortune as the founder of the hedge fund DE Shaw & Co., which uses mathematical computer-driven algorithms for securities trading.
His company is a pioneer in high-speed quantitative trading, so Shaw is called “King Quant”. After graduating from the University of California, San Diego, he received a PhD from Stanford University. Next, he joined the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he conducted research on massively parallel computing. Six years later, Shaw started working for Morgan Stanley, and two years later, he founded his own company, DE Shaw & Co. Today, his fund manages $55 billion in assets. He was twice appointed to the President’s Science and Technology Advisory Committee, the first time by President Clinton (1994) and the second time by President Obama (2009). Since 2001, Show has shifted his work to scientific research in computational biochemistry. He is currently the chief scientist of DE Shaw Research.
