David Alan Gest is an American television personality, music producer and ex-husband of Liza Minnelli. He was born to parents Jesse and Ellie on May 11, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He was a childhood friend of pop icon Michael Jackson. Gest completed his studies at California State University. Before entering the entertainment industry, he underwent two plastic surgeries in the 1980s.

Gest started his career as a music producer. He rose to fame in 2001 with the production of “Michael Jackson: A 30th Anniversary Celebration.” It became the highest-rated music special in American television history. He also made Cha’mone Mo’Fo’Selecta! Tribute to Michael Jackson (2009) and Michael Jackson: The Life of an Icon (2011). Gest was a contestant on the 2006 British reality TV game show “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”. He finished fourth.
Gest was a judge on the reality TV singing competition Soapstar Superstar in 2007 on ITV1. He followed up with his own reality series, David Guest, which premiered on April 22, 2007. Guest made a brief appearance as a “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant in 2016. He had to leave the show for medical reasons.
