Dhawan started out as an editor before turning to director, specializing in comedy films. His biggest hit to date was 1993’s Aankhen, starring Govinda and Chunkey Pandey.
His “Partner” (2007) was also a box-office success. Dhawan is a board member of the Asian Film and Television Academy and the Asian Media Studies Academy, where he also received an Oscar from Sandeep Marwah. Dhawan returns to Govinda, Vashu Bhagnani and his own trio with the movie Do Knot Disturb. Dhawan is married to Karuna (née Chopra) and has two children, Rohit Dhawan and Varun Dhawan. Dhawan’s younger brother is actor Anil Dhawan.
